The Springfield Police Department is no longer under federal oversight.
A federal judge terminated Springfield P-D's consent decree yesterday following a joint request by the city and the U.S. Justice Department.
The decree was implemented in 2022 after federal investigators found a pattern of excessive force by the police department's narcotics bureau.
The judge determined the department has demonstrated full compliance with all material requirements and proof of sustained, ongoing improvement.
