Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will start allowing off-duty servicemembers to carry guns on military bases.
Hegseth has signed a memo authorizing soldiers to carry privately-owned firearms for personal protection.
There are six bases in Massachusetts. Three in Rhode Island and 9 military installations in Connecticut.
In a video posted Thursday, Hegseth cited several recent shooting incidents on U.S. military bases he said highlight domestic threats.
He concluded the video by saying servicemembers should be afforded their Second Amendment rights.
