Pretrial Hearing Held For Officer Shooting Suspect

One of the suspects charged in a shooting that severely injured a Springfield police officer appeared in court yesterday.

Authorities say Dwight Clarke was inside a vehicle that fired shots at Officer Nestor Santos in June 2024.

Prosecutors said shots were initially fired from another vehicle at officers investigating gang violence on College Street before Clarke's vehicle shot at Officer Santos's unmarked police cruiser while he was on his way to work.

A total of seven arrests have been made in the case.
