Local Leaders Initiate Winter Storm Protocols

Local leaders are preparing for the winter storm expected to move in this weekend.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says the city has activated its cold weather outreach team for any residents who may need extra assistance during the frigid conditions and is also finalizing plans for snow plow workers.

Sarno is urging residents to obey the city's parking bans during the storm to ensure there are no disruptions to the plowing process.

He said anyone who violates the ban could be ticketed.

Western Mass residents packed the stores yesterday ahead of the winter storm this weekend.

Several hardware stores in the area say they're running low or completely out of rock salt, ice melt, shovels, and other essential items.

Forecasters believe the region will see a minimum of six-inches-of-snow and possibly double digits.

The snowfall is expected to begin late Sunday morning.
