One Dead, Two Injured After Yarmouth Trench Collapse

One person is dead, and two others are injured after a Tuesday morning trench collapse in Yarmouth.

The Fire Department responded to South Shore Drive near Parker's River Beach shortly before 9 a.m. for a report of the collapse at a sewer construction site.

The Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team was called along with more than a dozen other agencies who assisted with the rescue, security and operations support.

One victim pulled themselves from the trench, a second was trapped waist-deep and a third was completely entrapped.

The second victim was rescued just before 1:30 p.m. and flown to a Rhode Island Hospital by MedFlight.

The victim who died was removed from the trench at around 2:45 p.m.

The incident is under investigation by local, state, and federal authorities.

The Yarmouth Fire Department extends its deepest sympathies to the victim's loved ones.
