A Suffolk County jury has ordered State Police to pay close to seven million dollars after finding it discriminated against minorities and women.
The jury's finding yesterday comes in a lawsuit that was first filed in 2016 and claims State Police discriminated against the plaintiffs during the promotional process.
Attorneys for State Police unsuccessfully argued that there was no discrimination, and that the plaintiffs filed the lawsuit because they were upset about being passed over for promotions.
Lawyers for the state are considering a possible appeal.
