Former Boston Red Sox left fielder Mike Greenwell has died at age 62 after a brief battle with medullary thyroid cancer.

Greenwell spent his entire 12-year Major League career with Boston, earning two All-Star selections and later induction into the team's Hall of Fame.

After retiring from baseball, he served as a Lee County commissioner in Florida.

Greenwell was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2008.
