A Springfield City Councilor who was recently fired from the New North Citizens' Council is suing for wrongful termination.
Councilor Maria Perez was terminated on July 21st for allegedly using her position for private gain, with the council's initial press release also claiming Perez embezzled federal funds.
The claim was retracted by the NNCC a week later, but Perez said the allegations were false and defamatory.
Perez is seeking one-million-dollars in damages.
