Smoke from Canadian wildfires is causing hazardous breathing conditions across New England.
City officials are warning those with young children and anyone with respiratory illnesses to take precautions today, as soot and ash from the wildfires burning in northern Manitoba drift into the Northeast U.S. and over the five boroughs.
Air quality advisories have also been posted in parts of New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The alert is in place until midnight tonight.
