Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell is suing the Trump administration for illegally shutting down the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program.
The BRIC program has funded nearly two-thousand disaster preparedness projects across the U.S.
Campbell argues the termination violates the separation of powers and the Administrative Procedures Act.
“In the wake of devastating flooding in Texas and other states, it’s clear just how critical federal resources are in helping states prepare for and respond to natural disasters,” said AG Campbell. “By abruptly and unlawfully shutting down the BRIC program, this administration is abandoning states and local communities that rely on federal funding to protect their residents and, in the event of disaster, save lives.”
The lawsuit was filed in Boston's federal court and is part of a larger legal challenge by 20 states to restore the program.
