A Milford teenager who was arrested by federal immigration officers last month on his way to volleyball practice has been released from custody.
Eighteen-year-old Marcello Gomes da Silva appeared in front of an immigration judge yesterday.
The judge ruled that the teen should be released on bail as he challenges efforts by the federal government to deport him.
Gomes da Silva spoke after his release, saying he had no idea why he was arrested until being informed later that he overstayed a visa.
Meantime, Gomes da Silva says most of those being held at the facility in Burlington are good people, hard workers with families.
Gomes da Silva says he was a translator for other detainees, as he speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese.
He says that in some cases he was the one to inform people that the paperwork stated they were being deported.
