A Sandwich man is facing charges in the death of his mother.
Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois has announced that a grand jury indicted 23-year-old Thomas Hayes with manslaughter, and assault and battery on a person 60 and older causing serious bodily injury.
Hayes' 71-year-old mother was found unconscious and bleeding from a cut to the head in July of 2024 and she was taken to a hospital where doctors determined she also suffered a broken neck.
Hayes allegedly told the 911 operator and police that he pushed the woman, and she fell to the floor.
Hayes was violating probation at the time of the incident and was sentenced to one year at the Barnstable House of Correction.
