All eyes are on New York today where Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is expected to appear in federal court after being captured in Caracas by the U.S. military. Federal prosecutors are charging Maduro, his wife and their adult son with drug trafficking.
Most Democrats are speaking with one mind over the military actions in Venezuela over the weekend that removed Nicholas Madura from power.
Congressman Bill Keating did not hold back:
""Make no mistake, this is one of the most eye opening days in US political history. President Trump has just announced that he is taking control of the sovereign country of Venezuela until he feels fit to return it. He will install his Secretary of Defense, his Secretary of State, his and his Joint Chiefs Chairman to run the day to day operations. Additionally he is ordering US oil companies to enter Venezuela and take control of their energy industry. He personally will control billions of dollars that he has no right to access. Donald Trump is no more the legitimate president of Venezuela than was Nicholas Maduro."
Congressman Richard Neal said that Venezuela is a deeply flawed regime that does not warrant military action.
Senator Ed Markey said, quoting here now- “President Trump can’t run the American economy and now he says that he will run Venezuela.”
Senator Liz Warren called the action “unconstitutional” no matter how terrible a dictator he is.
Also happening today in New York, the UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting over the U.S. action in South America.
