USCG Releases More Information About Naushon Island Rescue

The U.S. Coast Guard has released more information about the rescue of a father, mother and son stranded on Naushon Island.

The family left Eel Pond in Falmouth Friday on a 30-ft pleasure craft and planned to anchor between Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard before returning Tuesday.

When they failed to return, a family member reported them overdue and rescue crews searched for them into Wednesday morning.

The family was rescued after the Coast Guard received a MAYDAY call from the survivors using their marine radio that washed ashore.

Officials say the family woke up to a vessel fire Monday night, so they abandoned ship and swam to the island and stayed in a barn.

The survivors suffered burns and were taken to Cape Cod Hospital.
