Applegreen Backs Out Of Deal To Redevelop Highway Plazas

Applegreen has backed out of the agreement with the state to redevelop 18 highway service plazas around Massachusetts.

The Ireland-based company indicates that after months of negotiations, they were unable to reach an agreement on definitive terms for the project.

Applegreen also indicates that costly litigation threats by opposing bidder Global Partners have jeopardized the timeline and financing for the project.

Global Partners sued to block the 35-year agreement between MassDOT and Applegreen, alleging the contract was ethically compromised.
