Trump "Looking At" Reclassifying Marijuana

The Trump administration is "looking at" reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug.

President Trump said during a news conference that he estimates his administration will make a determination over "the next few weeks."

Marijuana has been a Schedule-one drug since 1971, and Trump's potential reclassification would continue efforts started by the Biden administration to make marijuana a Schedule-three drug.

A Schedule-three designation wouldn't legalize marijuana, but it would lessen criminal penalties.

The President's comments come even as a group of Massachusetts voters seek to roll back current marijuana laws to ban the recreational growing of pot and the recreational consumption.

The Massachusetts Attorney General is reviewing whether the proposal can move forward as a referendum question next year.
