Governor Maura Healey says she will sign a provision passed by the legislature banning broker fees paid by tenants.
The measure included in the state budget requires the broker fee be paid to whoever first works with a rental broker, which is normally the landlord and not the tenant.
The fee is usually equal to a month's rent, and has been criticized for making the state's housing market even more expensive.
Healey says the days of having to shell out over ten-thousand-dollars before even moving into an apartment are now over.
