A man is in custody after authorities say he tried to steal a vehicle with a child inside.
Springfield police said 40-year-old Angel Tapia-Otero attempted to get into a person's car on Belmont Avenue, leading to a struggle that resulted in a crash.
There were no reports of injuries.
Tapia-Otero faces multiple charges including carjacking and kidnapping.
