Nicole Kidman Shares Lessons From 'Devastating' Experiences Amid Divorce

Nicole Kidman shared a thoughtful outlook on moving forward from “painful,” “difficult” and “devastating” life experiences.

The Oscar-winning actress, 58, recently spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about her beauty and skincare routines. When asked what she considers the best part about getting older, Kidman responded:

“The best part is the experiences that you've accumulated. So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now.’ Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I've experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’ There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through. You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it's going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly—and it can take an enormous amount of time—it does pass.”

Kidman’s response about learning from “painful” experiences arrives shortly after she filed to divorce country star Keith Urban, 57, after nearly two decades of marriage. She cited “irreconcilable differences,” and is seeking to remain the primary residential parent of the couple’s two teen daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Kidman met Urban at a gala in 2005 in Los Angeles, California, and they got married the following year in Sydney, Australia. Neither one of them have publicly commented on the divorce as of publication time on Friday (October 10).
