Through the world of Facebook I discovered last night one of my favorite Greenfield High School teachers passed away. Bill Budness during my time 99-03 was one of my gym teachers. He created his own game called "Bud Ball" a gym favorite and was also a former player for the Oakland Raiders! Budness was always up for telling stories about playing for the Raiders! In fact he played in Super Bowl II against the packers... they didn't win, but he loved to show off his AFL Championship ring.
Budness was one of the cool teachers... the back field used for gym class bordered Shattuck Park and a little place called Adam's Donuts! SOOOO GOOD! He would occasionally turn a blind eye if we ventured off the walking path to stop and nab donuts :-)
I had heard his health as of late wasn't so well and that he had moved to Delaware to be close to family. I've only been able to find this quick obit which notes he was a 1960 graduate of Chicopee High and that if you would like to do something in memory of Budness to donate to Boston University School of Medicine. I do believe it was BU he played for in college.
Thanks for some fond memories Budness!
