This past Saturday night I was asked to guest auctioneer a live auction to benefit patients at The Mass General Cancer Center at Cooley Dickinson. The event "Get Your Pink On"!
The two people that started fundraising for cancer did so when they were personally touched a few years back. Denise & Art Flanagan started fundraising for cancer patients when Art's sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. They started the group Patty's Bosom Buddies to raise funds in her name. In the 8 years they've hosted events like "Get Your Pink On" they have raised $86,4000 for cancer patients. After Saturday night the goal was to top over $100,000...I don't have the final number, but I'm betting after Saturday they're very close if not have surpassed that number.
Two people! Two people wanted to find a way to give back! These are the stories I LOVE! We'll all be effected by cancer at some point in our lives whether directly or indirectly and it's so important that we all fight together! A great person in my life constantly reminds while he's going through his own battle that no one fights alone! We all have to keep fighting!
Thanks to Jenn & Denise for inviting me to such a wonderful event! The funds raised support patient services that are not covered by insurance. Services like nurse navigator, nutritionist, oncology social worker, massage, reiki, telemedicine, and many other components that make an enormous impact on patients and their families.
