The U.S. Justice Department is filing federal charges against a Pittsfield man accused of impersonating a U.S. Army veteran for decades.
James D. Sommers has been indicted on one count each of health care fraud, false statements and aggravated identity theft.
Officials say Sommers impersonated an army veteran for over 30 years, stealing thousands-of-dollars in Social Security benefits, medical care and medications.
He was arrested back in March while allegedly staying at a facility that provides housing for veterans while using the victim's name.
