Farm Aid was started in 1985 (great year- the year of my birth ;-)) & for the second time in its history will be making its way to New England. Hartford, CT September 22nd with performances from Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Chris Stapleton & Sturgill Simpson!
Connecticut is 3rd in New England for farm sales. The last time Farm Aid made New England was 2008 at the Xfinity in Mansfield.
While farming is on the decline across the country Connecticut has seen growth of 100 farms since 2007.
Willie Nelson has said "Family Farmers are the backbone of our country. But today, they are endangered."
My Dad's side of the family used to run State Line Farm in Rhode Island. I'm not sure when the dairy farm business came to an end... I just know that the barns burned down & my Dad opted to go into the Navy so he wasn't milking cows at 3AM for life. I've heard some of his stories and my Grandfather's and I've always had respect for those that bust their asses so I can drive three minutes to grab milk without having to do the work myself.
Thursday I'll be sitting down with a spokesperson from Farm Aid to chat... I'll keep ya posted on time ;-)
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10AM through LiveNation.com and range from $54.50 to $279.50.
