Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey NH is about 40 miles from where I grew up in Greenfield. It was ridiculous that I never hiked it until Saturday! I finally roped someone into going up with me! Our Promotions Director Ashley!
When we arrived the park ranger told me it takes most people 3-4 hours to do the entire hike. I'd like to think I'm not most people so I took it as a challenge! Round trip with a 30 minute break at the top to eat jerky and enjoy the view was about 3 hours and 10 minutes. I'll call that a win!
Views up top were amazing and the weather was perfect! Give it a few weeks and gasp... they'll be even better with the foliage. Now I do recollect as kids some of my friends had gone on field trips up the mountain. That blew my mind after doing this... kids can take it on easily, but the kid to adult ratio really needs to be taken into consideration. You really need to watch where you step once you hit the smooth rock faces. Keep in mind to also wear decent shoes... I rocked (pun intended) my crossfit sneaks which aren't the gripiest (made that word up). I will be buying better hiking sneaks before the next adventure. I'm thinking maybe Greylock or Bartholemew's Cobble. And for sure I'll hit the 7 sisters in Holyoke during the fall, but I've done that one in the past... really would like to get in something new. Open for suggestions :-)
