Today is Eric Church's 40th Birthday - I'm so glad he was born because he has not only given us some amazing music and soundtracks to parts of our lives (for me "Sinners Like Me" was involved in so much of my 21st year and the best summer I've ever had), but he's done everything on his own terms!
It's so easy in life to try to fit yourself into a box to be "cool" or to fit in, but cool is making your own box and having people appreciate you for it. Eric built his fan base on his live shows. From the show last week at Mohegan to a packed arena for 4 hours to when he played the much smaller Paradise Rock Club he's always had the audience! He had me when he not only played my faves from "Sinners Like Me" , but covered Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls" at the Paradise circa 2007.
He debuted the "Chief" album at #1 before he had a #1 single...that eventually came with "Drink In My Hand". Why? Because his fans love lyrics, the music, the passion that comes with his performances, and he continues to show us that it's cool to make your own box!
Here's a few more videos from Mohegan and photos from the most recent meet and greet...to the first time he took a photo with me in 2010 at the House of Blues in Boston.
He announced 8 more tour dates this week including 2 in Gilford, NH...if you can make these shows and haven't seen this guy do yourself a favor and make it happen!
