Jason Collins, Former Celtic, NBA First Openly Gay Player, Dies at 47

Jason Collins, a former Boston Celtic and the first openly gay NBA player, dies at 47.

He passed away on Tuesday after an eight-month battle with an aggressive form of a brain tumor.

Collins had been diagnosed with Stage 4 glioblastoma, which has an extremely low survival rate.

He played 13 years in the league for six different teams, including 32 games with Boston in 2012 and 2013.

Collins also revealed in 2013 that he was gay, an announcement that came toward the end of his playing career.
