One of my favorite parts of working in radio is getting to connect with so many people. When I started working at KIX in Springfield a man named Gary befriended myself and a few of my co-workers.
Gary would always support our St. Jude events and feed us many times in the parking lot before shows at the Xfinity Theatre. Gary has a huge heart and in addition to giving to many charities he started one of his own. His "My Flag Project" was started to honor the memory of his son and our fallen veterans to help keep their memories alive.
Gary would just walk up to houses he saw displaying worn flags and replace them himself with new flags. Eventually people started donating so he could replace more and more not out of his own pocket.
On Saturday at the Moose Club in Chicopee his closest threw him a celebration of life that he could enjoy while he's still here! What a showing of love and support. The place was packed and in true Gary fashion he spun this celebration of life into helping others raising $6000 that he split between Dana Farber & his My Flag Project.
