COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Emergency crews were called to the 2800 block of Petzinger Rd. around 9:30 a.m. after a report of a shooting.

Columbus Police confirm that a Franklin County Probation Officer was one of two people wounded in the shooting. Our news partners at ABC6 report the officer is in stable condition.

"They actually pretty much stabilized him at the scene. He was talking to us on the way into the hospital," said Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Doug Smith.

Smith says the officer, who's name hasn't been released, was shot in the lower abdomen.

The suspect was pronounced dead shortly after 10 a.m. He had been shot in the chest.

Leslie Melick lives in the area. While she told ABC6 that she didn't hear any gunshots, she saw the response from emergency crews.

"Cars everywhere. Police everywhere. Kids running," she said. "We're living in hell. Everyday there's a murder, drugs involved, people just killing people. It's crazy. This is hell. I don't want to live here no more," she said.
