Gov. Deval Patrick is planning to break in his newly renovated offices with a series of bill signings.

The rehab of the executive suite, which includes offices on three floors of the Massachusetts Statehouse, could end up costing $11.3 million. The original estimate was about $9 million.

Officials said the increase was due to unforeseen challenges in fixing up the historic offices.

The yearlong project not only included a painstaking restoration, but technological updates include WiFi and a security system with facial recognition.

The Statehouse is more than 200 years old and hosts thousands of visitors each year.

Patrick, who only has about five months left in the office, has scheduled a series of events Wednesday to show off the office, including four bill signings, a swearing-in and a meeting of the Governor's Council.
